Considered the greatest rock band to come out of Britain is one, The Who, both within and outside the country's big success in America, many of them have with rock albums.

Taking just the "Tommy" album on tour, Daltrey will tour North America with Simon Townshend (the younger brother of original band member Pete Townshend), live performances, the album is expected to perform.

"Tommy", originally released in 1969 on the way met many challenges, even being banned by the BBC. Daltrey says the best things to skyrocket to the top of the chart could help the band was one.

Even though it was an eight-month long process to put together the "Tommy" album, "I just enjoyed the experience," Daltrey said.

The album went on to become popular throughout the U.K. and the U.S. and launch the careers of many other musicians.

Daltrey said, "I can't believe how lucky I am and how much support we've had. We've got the support of all you out there and thank you for that".

The band in the early 80s after the break, fans were not totally left in the dust, the rest of the band members still reunion tours or concerts for charity and will reconvene Daltrey's do it again.

"Music on record is one thing, but live music is what it's really all about," Daltrey said about his upcoming "Tommy" tour.

He tells RollingStone.com, "I'm not particularly looking forward to it. When I look back to some of his interviews, he's said some weird things."

At the Shockwave NME Awards on Wednesday night for being a music genius,Foo Fighters frontman and Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was honored.

Grohl was the first American artist to be given the Godlike Genius award by the music magazine’s awards show, according to Spin.com.

Grohl also joked, “You guys realize they gave this one to a drummer, right? This one's for the drummers!”

In adding to being one of the biggest classic rock acts out there, The Who has been tied to the Rock Band permit roughly since day one. When Harmonix initially announced full album downloads, The Who's Who's Next was the first one exposed, even if technological difficulty forced it to be scrapped in favor of a sampler of the band's hits. And in a promotional push for the sequel, the famous British rockers played a shock set at Harmonix and MTV Games' big E3 2008 Rock Band 2 party.

He added: "He told me that he didn't like what he saw. He took off what he could from the problem area on my vocal cord. He said it wasn't cancer but it was a pre-cancerous growth and you have to keep an eye on it."

Roger revealed that he had underwent surgery to erase a pre-cancerous growth from his throat just weeks before the big concert.

"(Now) I see him every time after I finish a tour and he swears that he'll keep me singing into my 80s. That might upset some people, but it keeps me happy."

English rock band 'The Who' were honoured at separate ceremonies in Los Angeles by the British record producer Sir George Martin.

The Who's singer Roger Daltry and guitarist Pete Townshend were joined by bands like The Flaming Lips and Foo Fighters for a two-hour concert celebrating their biggest hits.

BBC quoted Penn as telling the crowd "We're all here tonight because The Who never did sell out, unlike certain music channels".

The Who also paid tribute to former colleagues at their ceremony, with pre-taped tributes to drummer Keith Moon, who died in London in 1978 and bassist John Entwistle, who died in Las Vegas in 2002.

"I miss old friends, but they are with me," said Daltry on the red carpet before the event.

Roger Daltrey has given blessing to the frontman WHO to a Tyneside Substitute. The Whodlums Tribute band recreating the sound of The Who live in mid 2006. They are based in Newcastle but have impressed audiences all over the North. The Who song, Whodlums play this song from early separate such as Substitute and My Generation, Who Are You and You Better You Bet. In between there are selections from classic albums such as Tommy, Who’s Next, Live At Leeds and Quadrophenia, giving the audience a performance to remember. They will be performing at Newcastle O2’s Academy, on Sunday September 19, to raise cash for the Teenager Cancer Trust.

Who frontman Daltrey CBE is patron of Teenage Cancer Trust and has been supporting the charity for more than 10 years. And he told how he was delighted to see the Whodlums playing at the O2 in support of the Cancer Trust.

He said: “I'll very thankful to the O2 Academy Music Group for choosing to support Teenage Cancer Trust and The Whodlums and New Age Jam for performing to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust North East. All the money raised will go towards upholding the facilities in the local community and building a new unit for young cancer patients from across the North East.”

The 02 Academy Music Group currently chose the Teenage Cancer Trust to be its charity partner. And the Whodlums concert at Newcastle’s O2 Academy arrangers this partnership and will be the first of many concerts to come.

Pearl Jam and Kasabian join The Who onstage in London for 'Quadrophenia' show

The Who were joined onstage by very special guests when performed their rock opera album 'Quadrophenia' in its entirety in London last night (March 29).

The band were assisted by Kasabian's Tom Meighan and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder during the gig in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the Royal Albert Hall.

The performance was the first time remaining original members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend had played the album live since their 1990s 'Quadrophenia' tour. Frontman Daltrey had previously told that it would be the last time they play the 1973 album.

Taking to the stage at 9pm (GMT) after support group Sweet Billy Pilgrim, the duo were joined by Zak Starkey on drums, Simon Townshend on guitar and Pino Palladino on bass.

Flashing visuals of the band, scenes from the '60s and seascapes were shown on the screen behind the stage plus snippets of a revamped version of the 'Quadrophenia' film, complete with a Phil Daniels look-alike actor playing Jimmy for second song and mod anthem 'The Real Me'.

Pearl Jam frontman Vedder then joined the band to duet on 'The Punk And The Godfather'. Later he returned to help the band perform 'I've Had Enough'. Kasabian's Tom Meighan came on stage later during the song to add further vocals. Meighan was wearing a silver mod suit in a nod to the Ace Face character played by Sting in the film adaptation of Quadrophenia.

Townshend brought out a few of his signature windmill moves later on, while Vedder and Meighan returned for the second verse of 'Sea And Sand'.

Townshend' played 'Drowned' acoustically while Daltrey returned to the stage to begin 'Bell Boy', with Meighan appearing at the back of the stage after the first verse to sing the late Keith Moon's vocal parts.

Having refrained from any onstage banter throughout the gig, the band were then rejoined by their guest vocalists for one last time as they shook hands with the musicians, Townsend thanking the performers.

'I'd love to make a Keith Moon biopic' says Roger Daltrey

The Who's Roger Daltrey says he still wants to release a film about the band's original drummer Keith Moon.

"The Keith Moon film depends on someone sitting me down long enough with a writer to get it right. If I sat down for six weeks with a good writer, I could get it done," he told the Daily Star. "I've got it all in pictures in my head. I know what the film should look like, the way the narrative should be structured."

Daltrey added that he has rejected previous scripts – including one rumoured to have been written for Mike Myers to play the part of Moon.

The Who frontman Roger Daltrey has revealed that he's contacted Liam Gallagher about joining forces with his band.
The singer said he wants the former Oasis star to team up with the group when they play their classic 'Quadrophenia' album at the conclusion of this year's run of shows for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.
He told Absolute Radio: "I actually rung Liam to be part of The Who night, but he's otherwise engaged.
"We've actually got room for two guests, and anyone who wants to turn up and do something after we do 'Quadrophenia', just to round off the night, you know - let's see what happens."
Noel Gallagher has already been signed up to perform two gigs for the charity at London's Royal Albert Hall on March 25, 26.
"This is the first thing he's done, and he's always been involved with these shows," said Daltrey.
"In the first year he guested with us on those first shows, and he's done it with Oasis, he's done it on his own, solo. Post-Oasis, it's his first, and it's his only thing planned for the year."

There is growing assumption about the sex and name of Heather's EastEnders baby, following a chink online.

Heather, played by Cheryl Fergison, at a time seven months pregnant by an unknown man in the soap and is due to give birth almost the end of October.

However, there is now some confusion over the details of her unborn child.

Recently, Heather was informed at her scan that she was assumeing a baby girl and she then began mulling over another girls names such as Holly, after her grandmother.

However according to Digital Spy, a script snippet from an episode at the beginning of November currently acted on the show's official website, seemingly revealing that Heather's baby is, in fact, a boy.

Blatanly she will call the baby George, after her idol George Michael.

According to Digital Spy a show source said: "There's been so much secrecy surrounding the Heather storyline, to the extent that all of the penmanship have either been reviewed or doctored.

"The baby's father's called George in all the scripts, so there's a wonder chance that they could be doing this with the baby as well."

"It's definitely causing a lot of action but only a handful of people know the actual story..."

15 – 18 August 1969 – according to the song the people were half a million strong by the time they got to Woodstock. But in reality no one ever did get to Woodstock. Instead they made it to some alfalfa fields near Bethel – population 3,900 – a hundred miles north of New York City and 60 miles southwest of the town of Woodstock. The Aquarian Music and Art Fair was held at Max Yasgur’s farm in White Lake.

No one among the 500,000 people could have had any idea of just how important the festival would turn out to be. Given the size of the crowd it was all extremely peaceful, especially considering what they had to endure. There were rainstorms, people waited for long periods for something to happen; they also ran short of food, and water, but there seemed to be no shortage of drugs.

Woodstock was a cultural landmark waiting to happen. Ever afterwards people have tried to emulate it; just a few months later at another festival at Altamont Racetrack, near San Francisco it tragically ended with murder and the death of the 60’s dream. It just proves how thin the line between glory and failure can be. At Woodstock nobody kept notes, maybe because no one thought it was that important. It’s only as the telescope of history has gradually been extended that the cultural significance of the 3 days of peace and love has truly been recognised.

A friend of mine just disappeared from the front row. It was too difficult.''The other longtime member of the Who, the drummer Keith Moon, died in 1978 of a drug overdose. Today the drummer is Zak Starkey, the son of Ringo Starr. At the end of the show, pictures of Entwistle at various stages of his life were shown on the large screens flanking the stage of the Bowl, which was crammed with more than 18,000 fans of the group that shot to stardom in the storied British invasion of the 1960's. Many are in their 40's, 50's and higher, and they screamed, applauded, raised their fists and and gave the Who an exuberant welcome. Standing ovations followed most songs, and many people simply stood throughout the show.

The Who Awards

The Who were introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and succeeded the first annual Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement in Live Music Award in 2006. They got a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Phonographic Industry in 1988, and from the Grammy Foundation in 2001, for creative work of outstanding artistic worth to the field of recording. Tommy was introduced into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, "My Generation" in 1999 and Who's Next in 2007. My Generation was certain for conservation in the USA's National Recording Registry in 2009.

Townshend and Daltrey got Kennedy Center Honors at the 31st annual awards ceremony on 7 December 2008. The Kennedy Center Honors are America's highest cultural honour. The Who are presently the only rock band to have received this award.

The Who are an English rock band that shaped in Shepherd’s Bush, West London, England, in 1964 and produced to be considered one of the best and most influential bands in the world. They are also well-known for their ability as a live band - winning awards and being described as “possibly the greatest live band ever.” The primary arrangement consisted of Pete Townshend (lead guitar, vocals), Roger Daltrey (lead vocals), John Entwistle (bass, vocals) and Keith Moon (drums, vocals).

The Who rose to renown in the United Kingdom with a pioneering instrument destruction stage show, as well as a series of top ten hit singles (including the celebrated “My Generation”) and top five albums, beginning in 1965 with “I Can’t Explain”. They first hit the top ten in the USA in 1967 with “I Can See for Miles”. The 1969 release of Tommy was the first in a series of top five albums for the group in the USA, followed by Live at Leeds (1970), Who’s Next (1971), Quadrophenia (1973), and Who Are You (1978) among others.

Keith Moon passed away in 1978. After that the band launched two more studio albums, the top five Face Dances (1981) and the top ten It’s Hard (1982), with drummer Kenney Jones, before officially disbanding in 1983. They converted on several occasions to perform at special events such as Live Aid and for reunion tours such as their 25th anniversary tour (1989) and the Quadrophenia stimulation tours of 1996 and 1997. In 2000, the three existing original members began to discuss the possibility of recording an album of new material. These plans were delayed following the passing away of John Entwistle in 2002. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey go on to perform as The Who. In 2006 they released the studio album Endless Wire, which accomplished the top ten in the USA and UK.
